Queues

C. Armero and M.J. Bayarri

The intuitive notion that everybody has of the much familiar `queues' or waiting lines closely parallels its mathematical meaning. Queueing systems are simplified mathematical models to explain congestion. It is a field of impressive activity and growth. It has mainly been concerned with the building of the models and the study of its probability properties. Relatively little effort has been put into their statistical analysis. In this article, the main concepts underlying simple queuing systems are discussed; some Bayesian inferential tools are also given.
